Women’s Serbian national team is gearing up for historical trip to Lignano, where on Saturday (start 18 CET) they will face up Italy in firs ever international encounter for both squads. After the successful launch of club competition this season, Serbian Rugby League is excited to move one step further in developing girl’s competition.
“It’s a historical game for us and our team is very excited”, said Serbian manager Zeljko Delic. “We invested a lot of energy and time to kick start girls league and we believe that our international activity can further get more awareness of women’s involvement in rugby. Our team is really talented and we are going for the win against Italy”.
Even tough first club games were played only couple of month ago, Serbian will bring some much needed experience. Among 31 girls in provincial squad, some of them have played rugby in various capacity, headlined by Vanja Pesic whose experience come from her study in the USA.
Historical Serbia and Italy women’s clash will be part of Lignano’s double header. In the first game of the program local Balkan Super League debutants Lignano Sharks will host Serbian Champions Red Star in the 3rd round of regional championship.
