Match report

Red Star’s defense of the Balkan champions’ title began with a safe win in Athens. Red White was easily defeated by home Aris with 74-6. Domestic players tried hard. They took 6-4 in 9 minutes. Then there was a great game of guests who left with an advantage of 40-6 at half-time. Also Red Star players was dominant in the second half.

After the game Aris Eagles Coach Stuart McLennan said:

” It was always going to be a mammoth task once we found out we would be playing professional club Red Star Belgrade in Athens.They were very good. Aussie Darcy Etrich was dominant in the halves throughout the match. He is a class player. He was well supported by Zogovic at the back who is quick and runs very good lines. Coach Brett Davidson has a good structure in place. The rugby league Red Star play is effective and entertaining.Despite the score line there were moments when we were competitive and I am proud of the boys for sticking with it. We will take a lot from this experience and come back a better side.”
